Cindy, Your E-zine is so amazing. It came to me when I needed it the very most. I  know I have said this in the past, but it bears repeating: I cannot thank you enough. Everything you send reaches me when I need it the most.

Thank you for all the encouragement and all the great coaching.

Sincerley, Ericka M. Dawydko

We are a society of overbooked, overworked, overscheduled people trying to cram 25 hours into a 24 hour day.  We never stop going, and we're paying for our frantic lifestyle with high blood pressure, migraine headaches, ulcers, and insomnia, as well as failed relationships with family and friends.

The good news is that we can learn to slow down our lives and still accomplish what we really need to do, improve our health, and renew relationships with spouses, children, and friends -- and, more importantly, our relationship with ourselves.

The answer lies in meditation.  It's so simple and yet so few of us take advantage of this solution.  Maybe we've tried to meditate once or twice and didn't see much difference.  Or maybe we just don't have the time -- which means our need to meditate is even greater.

Meditation is easy to learn and doesn't take much time.  Here are some easy-to-follow instructions:

  • Sit in a comfortable position with your back straight and your feet flat on the floor, or you can sit cross-legged on the floor if you find that more comfortable.  Place your hands on your knees with palms facing upward.
  • Breathe -- not the usual shallow breathing that we tend to do.  Inhale through your nose while mentally counting to 4.  Now exhale through  your nose while mentally counting to 8 or higher.  Repeat.
  • Close your eyes and focus on your breath -- inhaling and exhaling normally through your nose.
  • When your thoughts intrude -- and they will be intrusive when you first start this process -- gently and without criticism of yourself bring your focus back to your breath.

If you will practice this process of meditation for 5 minutes twice a day, after 2 weeks you will notice a difference.  It won't hit you like a ton of bricks, but you will start to notice that you're calmer in the face of things that once set you off.  You'll begin to sleep better and be in an overall better frame of mind.
